Personal Description:

My name is Rhoan . I am a final year Mechatronic Engineering student at Stellenbosch University, with a focus on machine learning and artificial intelligence. I have a passion for maths, science and hockey and I love teaching. I come from Knysna, but finished school in a small town in the Free State, where I matriculated in 2020 with academic colours.

Tutoring Experience:

I have tutored both online and in person for around 4 years.
I also tutored my fellow students who were in grade 11 and 12 when I was still in school and I often helped my younger cousins and some of the younger primary school kids in hostel.
I have mainly tutored maths, science and biology, but I also love English and would teach that too.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a person who loves to understand things. I always want to know why something works the way it does and why something needs to be done in a certain way. This is why when I tutor, I try focus on trying to understand the work rather than just learning formulae and rules. I believe that this will help the student in being able to tackle problems that are slightly different to what they are used to or what they have practiced, because they will be able to apply their understanding to most situations.

I try to work at a pace which suits the student, so that they can fully absorb what they have learnt. This pace will be determined based on how quickly the student grasps the work and how confident they are with applying their knowledge.

I am not particularly strict, but I push my students to do the best work they can and to be determined themselves.
