Personal Description:
My name is Sibéal , and I'm an Irish and Spanish language tutor. I received a first class honours degree, majoring in both Spanish and Irish, from University College Cork in 2020. I'm a fluent Irish speaker, as I was raised in the Gaeltacht of West Kerry and speak the language daily in both my personal and professional life. During my undergraduate studies, I spent a year living and studying in Northern Spain, which allowed me to completely immersed in the language. I'm a very confident Spanish speaker and believe I have an advanced written level of the language also. I have been Garda vetted and have multiple references from parents to principals that I would be more than happy to pass on if needed. Furthermore, I'm also a registered teacher with the Teaching Council of Ireland.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been teaching both Spanish and Irish to secondary school students at junior and senior cycle levels for the past two years. I have also taught third-level students Irish on multiple courses held online. Moreover, I teach adult learners Irish online on a weekly basis for beginners as well as those who would like to brush up on their skills and practice. The adult learner classes tend to be more casual than the other classes, as their learning is not motivated by upcoming examinations.
Approach to Grinds:
My approach to grinds would, of course, vary depending on the student's individual needs. However, I tend to offer a comprehensive class in which I cover material which involves reading, writing and listening that tests and improves the student's written and oral ability with a focus on their overall comprehension of the language. Most students may excel in one of these areas of the language and lag behind in another, however, I do my utmost to help students improve and progress to ensure they are confident in all aspects of the language. For students who are focusing on obtaining certain grades, I often focus on the layout of the examination and how best to go about it in order to achieve the desired grade. Because I have been teaching secondary school students for the past two years, I have a great knowledge of the layout of the examination paper in both Irish and Spanish at senior cycle level, especially. Being a recent graduate of Irish and Spanish, I also have an astute understanding of the layout of university exams and what is needed to acquire a good result at that level.
