Personal Description:
I am a recent bachelor of science graduate from the University of Galway, with a specialisation in anatomy. I graduated with a first class honours grade and achieved all As throughout my final year in college. I have also studied biochemistry, zoology, microbiology, botany and physiology so I have a strong background in many different areas of biology. Biology was my highest grade in the leaving cert and after undertaking a degree in science, I feel as though I have the appropriate skills and teaching abilities to help anyone currently struggling with the subject, or wanting to improve their grade in it. I am a friendly and enthusiastic person and I am patient and understanding when it comes to learning as I want to be able to both teach and inspire students at the same time.
Tutoring Experience:
I began giving one-to-one grinds this year in biology, so I have readily available notes to give to students. I am currently working in the University of Galway as a teaching assistant, where I will be helping out 1st year medical students, and second, third and fourth year science students with biology. Therefore, I believe that I have valuable teaching experience which will help me to deliver biology grinds to students in the most effective way.
Approach to Grinds:
I have excellent notes which condense the huge amount of material that comes with the subject into a more manageable workload. I will be able to share these notes with the student and go through them in detail so that they can fully understand the topic before they begin to learn it. I like to ask questions and be interactive with the student throughout the lesson, as I feel as though this is the best approach to teaching the subject. The first part of the grind will either be dedicated to focusing on what the student is struggling with, or revision of a topic that they do not remember so well. The second half of the grind will be supplementing what the student is currently studying in class, so confusion on different topics can be avoided.
