Personal Description:
My name is Cormac and I’m currently a senior teacher of History & Geography in a Dublin school. My teaching experience is 15+ years. I’ve taught both Junior and Senior History & Geography for all this time helping students to reach and in many cases surpass their potential. My classes are structured and clear, helping the student to understand the concepts first before over complicating matters.As a teacher, I believe in setting individual concrete goals for students and establishing a clear path to achieve these goals.
Tutoring Experience:
I love my subjects and enjoy helping kids find a passion for them too. As a person I like to think I’m approachable, friendly and helpful. Aside from direct classroom teaching, I also have 10+ years of experience as an assistant Examiner for the State Exams Commission… basically I corrected the JC & LC for over a decade.
Approach to Grinds:
Grinds should push and support the student in equal measure. I demanding the very best effort from students… mistakes are pathways to learning and the more we make the more we learn. You can only take a student as they are and as such, my support for different students is inherently individualised. One-to-One tuition MUST be a collaborative process (especially for subjects like History & Geography) between teacher and student. I provide my own individualised notes, sample answers and essays. In the case of LC History I use my own focused textbook to make the concepts as accessible as possible.
I’m interested in helping a student reach their fullest potential in the subject.

I would certainly recommend Cormac to anyone looking for geography grinds
His communication for the first engagement has been excellent and he is such a pleasure to deal with. My daughter is really happy to sit for two tutoring sessions a week with him as he is so easy going and friendly yet very structured in his approach. Cormac sets everything up re schedules and assignments which works really well for my 15 year old and his support and encouragement go a long way in managing the Junior Cert Geography and History courses. His experience in teaching teenagers shines through. Delighted to have found Cormac through First Tutors.
