Personal Description:

Hello, my name is Ciarán. I am passionate about life sciences, sport and the French language. I achieved an A in higher level French and B1's in biology and chemistry in the 2016 leaving certificate examinations.

Tutoring Experience:

I have a range of teaching experience when it comes to languages.

I have worked in Griffith College Cork for Education First; a private international English language teaching company where I helped French, Spanish and Russian children learn English through classes, cultural trips and team building exercises. I was tasked with leading a group of 20 French students during the course of their stay. This involved regular liaison with students and staff to ensure an optimal language learning experience. I also regularly assist family members who are currently completing their senior cycle education.

I have also participated in PAL (peer assisted learning) in UCC. This is a scheme which aims to help first year STEM students adapt to learning science at university level.

Approach to Grinds:

I believe building a friendly, growth-orientated environment is key for learning.
A brief initial assessment of the student's current level will first be carried out to identify strengths and areas that require work.

I place a strong emphasis on the oral and aural components of the course as this may be an area of difficulty for some students. Conjugation, syntax and composition are also comprehensively covered.
On a side note, I have sat the leaving certificate twice as I chose to repeat after narrowly missing out on my desired course the first time around. Therefore, I may offer particular help to students who are in the same situation with the various problems that repeating the leaving cert brings!
