Personal Description:
Hi, my name is Caitlin. I am outgoing, compassionate and maths loving. I graduated from Trinity College Dublin with a First Class Honours in Theoretical Physics.
I have over a decade of experience working with young people in both instructional and caring roles. I am passionate about education and its empowerment to the individual and have fallen into teaching positions naturally all my life.
Tutoring Experience:
For nine years and counting, I have delivered high-quality, tailored lessons in Junior and Leaving Cert Mathematics. I have also run after school chess clubs and coached sports teams of all ages.
My bachelor’s thesis assessed the implementation of student-led pedagogies and the barriers to embracing active-learning techniques within Junior Cycle Mathematics.Taking on a project outside of my course material provided additional challenges, however I was determined to contribute research to broadening access and retainment in maths education.
I am a native English speaker with a certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language as well
Approach to Grinds:
I don't believe somone is 'mathsy' or not, numeracy skills are cultivated in supportive, encouraging environments. I assess students needs and goals to plan lessons. I help students build a “toolbox” that they can draw from at any point, to tackle problems in the classroom but also, beyond into the real world too. Reducing maths aversion through empathy and attainable goals, students have the courage and “tools” to navigate their learning. My students on average improve by 1-2 grades, over the course of a year, due to the pedagogy I implement.
