I am a full-time Maths and Physics tutor. I work with students of all the above subjects, primarily with Leaving Cert students in both 5th and 6th year.
I aim to provide an encouraging and relaxed atmosphere for my students. I know that Maths and Physics can be daunting subjects!
Tutoring Experience:
I have been giving grinds privately since 2017 and went full-time in 2021. Over the years I have tutored hundreds of students both in person and online throughout the Ireland and internationally (USA and the UK). My students have seen a high level of success in achieving their top choice in the CAO and also through UCAS in the UK, including students in TCD, UCD, UCC, and Oxbridge.
I have collaborated with various STEM outreach programmes (incl. Quavers to Quadratics, which is run as a partnership between the National Concert Hall in Dublin & TCD) on curriculum and content creation in the past. This allows me a further perspective that I utilise particularly with younger students who struggle to understand concepts without a creative, practical approach.
I hold a Postgraduate Certificate in Educational Studies & worked as a teacher (Educate Together) in 2020-2021. Outside of teaching full classes in the school I led learning support sessions for students who needed some extra help - either due to significant knowledge gaps or additional needs that lead to some extra support being needed.
Approach to Grinds:
I enjoy creating a relaxed environment for my students to flourish. I find this works best as they are encouraged to ask questions without feeling intimidated by the content. Teaching is a two way street and open communication can accelerate the learning process.
I encourage students to reiterate and explain their steps throughout practice problems. This allows me to continually focus on any gaps in understanding that may occur and also to lead students towards the correct method/answer, rather than telling them outright. I find that this method makes it easier for students to remember the process since they have to work at it rather than just memorise a set of steps.
I also like to ensure that students understand the importance of consistent work rather than doing a high volume of work in a short space of time. I believe that there is often the issue that students don't know how or what to study. I work with my students to develop detailed study plans during the run up to exams & help them to begin feeling confident in making their own plans.

Aoife
Aoife was very flexible in arranging a time that suited us for the lesson. As our son is a student of a gaelcholàiste, having a tutor who has experience of teaching maths through Irish is proving invaluable for him. Would highly recommend Aoife.
