Personal Description:
I am from Donegal and currently completing my Bachelor's degree in Home Economics and Irish at St. Angela's College, Sligo. My passion for education and making a positive impact on young people's lives is the reason I decided to become a teacher. I'm particularly interested in pursuing a Master's in Special Needs Education in the future, as I believe this specialisation will allow me to support and uplift students who require additional assistance. Every week, I volunteer at a special centre in Donegal Town, where I have the opportunity to engage with and help individuals with additional needs, an experience that has been incredibly rewarding and eye-opening. Additionally, I spent four weeks working as a Bean an Tí in Ranafast, a role where I took on the responsibility of caring for, cooking for, cleaning after, and monitoring twelve students 24/7. This intensive experience taught me a lot about dedication, patience, and the importance of a supportive and nurturing environment. Outside of my academic and volunteer commitments, I have a keen interest in sports and love getting involved in extracurricular activities. Whether it's participating in team sports or organising events, I find these activities to be a great way to connect with others and stay active. Through all these experiences, I am continually motivated to contribute positively to the lives of young people and look forward to the many opportunities ahead.
Tutoring Experience:
Throughout my studies, I have completed school placements in various settings, including a Youthreach centre, an all-girls school, and two secondary schools. These diverse experiences have provided me with a broad understanding of different educational environments and the unique challenges and rewards each setting presents. Each placement has further fuelled my commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning atmosphere.
I have completed 1:1 grinds sessions with various students in both Junior Cycle and Senior Cycle.
Approach to Grinds:
I can engage with students on a 1-1 basis or group scenario also. I meet with and talk to students to understand the areas that they need additional help with. We design a programme that students will engage with for the duration of the grinds to enhance their learning. I provide the students with notes, powerpoints and tips to ensure optimum learning.
I usually ask the students to engage with a small bit of additional homework so I can keep up to date with their individual progress.
