Personal Description:

Hello, my name is Amy and I’m from Dublin. I am a qualified teacher with almost 20 years of experience both at primary and secondary level. I have been teaching Spanish and French in a secondary school in Dublin for the last 16 years and have given grinds in both subjects throughout this time.

Tutoring Experience:

I am a very experienced teacher in both Spanish and French. I taught Spanish at primary level for 3 years under the MLPSI pilot project introduced by the government. I have taught Spanish, French and English as a Foreign Language to adults in night class programmes for 3 years. For the last 16 years I have taught Spanish and French to all year groups at secondary level (1st-6th) at both Ordinary and Higher levels preparing students for both the Junior Cycle and the Leaving Certificate. During all of this time I have also given grinds in both languages and at all levels aforementioned, including at university level. I am also a Leaving Certificate Oral Examiner and have examined in many schools around Ireland for the last 10 years in my position with the State Exams Commission. With this experience, I conduct Mock Orals in several schools in advance of the Oral exams.

Approach to Grinds:

My classes are very well-structured and tailored to the individual needs and learning styles of my students.
I always include the four strands of language learning - speaking, listening, reading and writing - in each lesson whilst also addressing specific difficulties or challenges my student might be experiencing. I have a great deal of experience in preparing students for the Leaving Certificate and in particular the Oral exam, sharing tips and advice from an Examiner’s point of view.
