Kirsteen

I’m a keen and passionate teacher living and teaching in East Ayrshire. I am available for tutoring during the week in the evenings; upon request I may be able to accomodate a weekend slot. I have a wide range of knowledge and expertise in all areas of the primary sector. I have also taught as an Early Years Teacher (in Nurseries) which has given me valuable experience in building solid foundations for children at the start of their learning journeys. When I am not teaching I enjoy spending time with my family and our 2 dogs.

Tutoring Experience

I have been teaching for over 10 years. I have experience teaching in P1-P7, with a further qualification in teaching P1-P3 specifically. I have also taught children with additional support needs, being able to tailor the curriculum to meet their own individual needs. I have extensive knowledge of raising attainment strategies in Literacy and Numeracy as I have been involved in many training opportunities to develop my skills and have been able to implement this with the learners that I work with.

Tutoring Approach

Initially, I like to spend some time with parents and their child to understand what their needs are. I will ensure I am working towards a shared goal, and will come prepared but willing to adapt the plan based on how the session progresses. I am happy to provide some work for your child to complete between sessions, in order for them to practise what has been taught and also show if there are any areas for development. I have a friendly and flexible, responsive approach. I like to make sure that students feel challenged yet supported and will provide a variety of resources to aid learning. I believe that learning should be fun and active, in order to create meaningful connections and learning relevant to real life skills, and it also makes it more memorable and enjoyable for the learner. I aim for all learners that I work with to have a positive attitude towards learning, feeling confident and motivated towards the challenges that they face.
