Danny

I'm a computer programmer by profession, making science software for schools (KS3 and 4). I'm also an author of both fiction and non-fiction, and have a particular interest in science of all kinds, especially evolution and the study of the mind. I'm a father of two, and have lived in Surrey now for fifteen years.

Tutoring Experience

I have a Maths degree from Cambridge University. I'm a qualified teacher, experienced tutor and published author on maths and physics for computing. I've tutored children of all abilities and a range of ages up to adults, although I specialise in GCSE and A-Level. Even before the pandemic I was particularly active in online tutoring, with a large number of overseas students.

Tutoring Approach

I believe that there is a big difference between tutoring and teaching: as a tutor, my role is primarily to support the work done in class, not to replace it. I am also a great believer in the value of broader education, and draw on current affairs, general knowledge and wide reading to provide context and a deeper understanding of schoolwork. I try to ignore exams for as long as possible: exams are a means of displaying the knowledge you have, not an end in themselves. However, it is important to know how to display that knowledge effectively, and as exams approach I will concentrate more on exam technique and making sure you make the most of all the hard work you have done over the previous years.
