Humphry is unfailingly cheerful and enthusiastic, whilst he is able to identify things that need attention. As a returning cello player after a gap of about 30 years I have had specific difficulties in trying to resume playing the instrument. When I broke a string on Easter Saturday and contacted him to say that I wouldn't be able to practise before my lesson, he invited me over to fit a new string and also sort out some other issues with the instrument. This was despite the fact it was a bank holiday and he was feeling a bit under the weather. He has sent me ideas and pieces to listen to or watch after every lesson. This all makes me feel that my specific needs and interests are the things that are important. I wish I had done this ages ago.

I have been having lessons for the last three weeks with Humphry , thanks to First Tutors. If i never came upon this website i would still be searching for a tutor. I have learnt so much in such a short time with Humphry, more so than any other tutor that has taught me in the past. Being a beginner at mastering the cello, i am learning already about second, third and fourth position on the strings whiich i have never experienced before and i am finding the whole experience of playing very enjoyable thanks to Humphry.
