Personal Description:
Hi, I’m Will. I’m 22 years old, and reading Bloodstock at the Royal Agricultural College.
When not studying, I sing as a deputy Lay Clerk at Gloucester Cathedral, and am teaching myself the organ.
I have a distinction in grade 8 singing, with two diplomas (ARSM and DipABRSM). On top of this I am a violinist and a proficient pianist.
Prior to studying at the RAU, I was awarded a Choral Scholarship to read Music at King’s College, Cambridge, though I was unfortunately unsuccessful in achieving the requisite A Levels.
I retook A Level Latin, and therefore have 3 As in Music, Latin and Fine Art.
My main musical interests lie around the English Pastoral School of the early twentieth century, and the German Lieder of Schubert and Schumann.
I am very hardworking, personal and am happy to be malleable to fit your needs!
Tutoring Experience:
My teaching experience stemmed from having to guide probationer choristers as Senior Chorister at Wakefield Cathedral. My roles included teaching processing and turnout, as well as musically guiding younger choristers into more competent singers.
While studying A Level Music in the sixth form, we were expected to give younger students tuition in their composition and historical musicology.
I also formed and directed the A Level Music consort, which culminated in a performance given at a local special needs school.
Outside of music, while working as a groom at Ham Polo Club, I took some riding lessons, and participated in group chukka sessions, to provide opposition to clients and encourage positive play.
Tutoring Approach:
I am classical trained, and I believe the student is the main focus in teaching, and am therefore willing to adapt to different learning styles.
As someone with ADD, I know the difficulties presented when trying to stay engaged in any given topic, so I therefore like to take a broad approach.
Doing this enables me to find the best possible fit for students in terms of repertoire and interests.
I very much believe that one can never know enough, and that knowledge enriches and improves the human experience, and my teaching reflects this.
I don’t believe in rushing processes, or churning through grades, without having the requisite background knowledge to make achieving the qualification worthwhile.
