Lessons are taught from my home studio, in-person and online. All levels are welcome.

Tutoring Experience:

Victoria is a very experienced teacher and performer of all woodwind instruments (flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone and bassoon), piano and music theory. As a Woodwind Instructor she has taught for local authorities as well as schools in the independent sector. Her pupils have played with the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland, the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra Young Creatives Programme, West of Scotland Schools Orchestra and Concert/Training Band, the National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Scotland, Strathclyde Youth Jazz Orchestra, Dunbartonshire Concert Band, Clyde Wind Ensemble, amongst many others. They have also furthered their study at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Junior Department, the Music School of Douglas Academy, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, the Royal Northern College of Music, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Glasgow University, Strathclyde University and Aberdeen University.

Victoria graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2008 with a Masters in Music Performance on bassoon. She has always been interested in many different genres of music and since then has continued to forge a varied playing career alongside her teaching work. As a freelance bassoonist she has worked with professional orchestras throughout the United Kingdom, however she is more regularly to be found playing baritone saxophone in big bands and performing on all woodwind instruments for touring theatre shows.

Victoria also teaches piano, having achieved an ABRSM Performance Diploma, whilst still a school pupil herself. When teaching her woodwind pupils she accompanies her pupils from playing their very first few notes in order to encourage a sense of ensemble playing, focus and musical discipline before the pupil realises that's what they're doing! Victoria regularly works as an accompanist in schools and freelance, for both SQA and external exam boards.

Victoria is passionate that a good musical understanding should underpin any learning, and music theory is built in to every lesson at whatever level the student is playing. Music Theory can also be taught as a separate subject, and Victoria is adept at teaching those who need that Grade 5 Theory push to access higher grade performance exams, as well as those who have an interest in understanding how music really works.
