Personal Description:
I am an enthusiastic, highly experienced music teacher/performer with over 28 years experience and have won awards for my work in Musical Theatre (Musical Director) with school productions.
My performance work is very important and, as a member of a very successful Yorkshire based Swing band, I am passionate about maintaining my own performing standard to the highest level.
I love working with young people and adults alike and have experience teaching beginner to diploma level.
I have grade 8 qualifications in Flute, Clarinet and Music Theory and a Performering Diploma on clarinet.
Tutoring Experience:
I have 28 years experience teaching classroom music at secondary level (11-18 years). I have been teaching privately, on and off (with a break from private tutoring to bring up my own children), for many years with peripatetic teaching experience in Liverpool high schools as a post-graduate student.
I have successfully tutors many students through their grade 8 practical examination and beyond.
Tutoring Approach:
I recommend 30 minute lessons for beginner to grade 8 level. Contact me for price.
I love what I do and believe that this feeds into my work as a teacher and take pride in the positive and successful working relationships I have with my students. I have experience with ABRSM, Trinity College graded examinations and A Level and GCSE music syllabi but recognise that this isn't always the only pathway to success in music. Instilling a love of music-making and nurturing an inquisitiveness in my students is what motivates me as a teacher. I am still in touch with lots of ex-students, many of whom have gone into the music profession themselves.
