Personal Description:

I am a qualified and experienced teacher, having taught piano, clarinet and saxophone upto grade 8 for more than 30 years. I teach students of all ages and offer a professional quality service. I usually teach the student in their own home, and certainly for young children this offers them the security of a parent present. I like to involve parents in decisions regarding the pupils development, and offer a caring and friendly approach to learning. I prepare students for ABRSM examinations, form grades 1-8.

Tutoring Experience:

Teaching in the classroom for 16 years, before commencing private teaching in 1992. Teach children from the age of 5 . Also teach adults up to any age. Have experience of geaching all levels and abilities, including autistic children, and children with physical disabilities.

Tutoring Approach:

The lessons are usually half hour sessions of concentrated hands on tuition. I am very thorough with basic techniques such as good fingering on the piano, and breathing on the woodwind instruments. Once the student has made some headway, and is playing recognisable tunes I introduce basic music theory (depending on age/writing skills). I encourage students at all times, and when they feel confident I prepare them for examinations.
