Personal Description:
Valerija Iljin is a Lithuanian spinto soprano of Ukrainian descent who recently graduated with a Master of Arts from the Royal Academy of Music. Valerija is mentored by Janet Haney, Marcus van den Akker, Joan Rodgers and Dr Christopher White. Valerija holds a Bmus degree from Trinity Laban and a BA theatre degree from VIKO and LCM. In 2024, Valerija became a finalist in the Hans Gabor Belvedere competition and won the Isabel Jay Memorial Prize and the Third Medici Prize. In 2023, Valerija made her Carnegie Hall and Wigmore Hall debut. Valerija was a semi-finalist of the Kathleen Ferrier Awards 2023 and a runner-up of the Clara Schumann lieder competition. Recent opera and theatre credits include Chrysothemis in Elektra at the DVP Berlin, with Maestra Elda Laro (Deutsche Oper), Elsa in Lohengrin (RAM), Norma in Norma (RAM), 1st Lady in Die Zauberflöte at the Manhattan Opera Studio with maestro Keith Chambers, Maria in the Westside Story (Vilnius Philharmonic), Susanna and Emma (R&D Bolshoi theatre, Simon McBurney, Leah Hausman, Complicité).
Tutoring Experience:
Valerija has over ten years of teaching experience in education and running a thriving private music studio. Valerija is a member of AOTOS, ISM, EPTA and MU. As an experienced musician, Valerija has been holding her annual masterclasses, workshops and festivals (Summer Talent Showcase, Christmas Wonderland Music Festival). Valerija enjoys preparing pupils for ABRSM, Rock School and Trinity music exams in various subjects and has a 100% exam success rate. Many of her students already have their own professional careers, attend extremely competitive voice, piano and musical theatre Junior Departments at the Royal Academy of Music; have prepared roles in the West End musicals and UK national tours (School Of Rock, Sound Of Music, Addams Family, Six and others) and successfully participated in popular TV shows such as 'The voice kids UK', ‘ X Factor UK’, 'X Factor Lithuania', 'The Voice', 'Eurovision' etc.

I had to reschedule our lesson because of a back injury I had and still am very unwell. Unable to walk properly and moving very little using a walking stick. I do not feel very comfortable disclosing such information in public, but your feedback has left me with no choice. The lesson was not confirmed and ‘confirmation of not having a lesson’ was sent to you at 8am on the day, which leaves nearly 4 hours prior to your lesson. Tried calling you several times with no response whatsoever. I wish you would have some understanding and compassion towards other people and would take certain unprecedented situations into consideration. I understand that you were upset about this, but it does not mean you can be mean to other people.
