Personal Description:
I am currently working towards a Masters in Music Performance at the University of Huddersfield where I am focusing on developing my skills as a soloist and as an ensemble player. I currently hold the position of Solo Euphonium in both the University's Brass Band and Symphonic Wind Orchestra where I have attended regular rehearsals and performances, notably performing at UniBrass, where in 2021 I was a featured soloist. In my solo playing outside of ensembles, I have a variety of performance experience ranging from classical repertoire to modern electronic music.
Outside of my studies, I also play for Elland Silver Band, who compete in the championship section of the Yorkshire region of brass band contests. Whilst performing with this band, I perform in various concerts and contests which take place all over the country. Some of the most notable contests that the band competes in are Spring Festival, the Scottish Open and the Dr Martin Contest.
Tutoring Experience:
I have had experience teaching with a local youth band, where I offered both 1:1 tuition and helped in various ensembles, helping people keep in time when playing as an ensemble and maintaining balance to help develop their ensemble skills.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe that all lessons should be enjoyable when learning a musical instrument, as if someone doesn't enjoy a piece of music, they're less likely to practice and will quite possibly loose interest. To combat this, I will provide a wide range of repertoire and will always make sure pieces that are picked for students, will be enjoyed. I will help students develop technique, musicality and performance skills as well as general music theory.
