Personal Description:
I studied at Leeds College of music and I have been an instrumental music teacher for the last 18 years. I teach piano, guitar, double bass and electric bass.
As a professional bass player I have worked all over the world on musical theatre productions, in Jazz ensembles, big bands, function bands, tribute bands, orchestral ensembles and for many years I sailed the oceans as a musician on the QE2.
I have been involved with a number of recordings and I am often employed to write arrangments on sibelius and record musical backing tracks for cruise ship productions.
I am also a regular radio broadcast contributor on Swing time for Sheffield live radio.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been teaching from beginner to advanced for many years. I mainly teach piano and guitar privately at the students home. Double bass and electric bass students usually come to me. I have also taught for music schools and as peri in primary and secondary schools. Eight of my students have managed to gain music scholarships and twenty pupils have gone on to study music at various Universities and specialist music colleges.
I also have classroom KS3 and KS4 QTS music from oxford Brookes.
Tutoring Approach:
I like to think that I am enabling a student to become a musician and the instrument is the tool that should drive the students joy and passion for the subject.
On piano I teach Jazz, blues, and the ABRSM grades to grade 8.
On guitar I teach most styles and have transcribed plenty of material. For graded material I tend to go for the Trinty Rock and pop material.
On Double Bass I teach Jazz and classical all levels
On Bass Guitar I teach the instrument to all levels and use my own charts and the Trinity Rock and pop
For theory lessons I teach Abrsm and Trinity
