Personal Description:
I am currently only offering online lessons. I enjoy teaching and learning most styles of music, both classical and pop/rock, and I have very wide tastes. I find it very rewarding to teach musical skills to people of all ages, and watch them progress and develop their talents.
Tutoring Experience:
I have a Bachelor of Music honours degree, and I have been teaching since 1993, both privately at home, as well as in leading independent schools in Bristol, Bath and Somerset. I started playing Classical guitar when I was 13, and after I passed Grade 8, I also started playing Pop & Rock guitar.
I also studied piano at university, and after a long gap I took up the piano again in 2005, and passed Grade 8 in 2015. I have performed in public as a singer-guitarist, covering a wide selection of pop music.
In recent years I have also mastered the ukulele, which I find is great fun.
In addition to teaching, I am also a songwriter and composer, and currently have two of my songs posted on youtube.
Tutoring Approach:
I teach one-to-one, and all ages are welcome, from young children to mature adults. For safeguarding purposes an adult will need to be present during lessons for any students under 18, either in-person or remotely as a zoom guest. I cater for skill levels from absolute beginners to intermediate, from grades 1-6 on guitar, and grades 1-4 on piano. I can put candidates in for ABRSM, Trinity, and Rockschool exams, if they wish. I believe that exams are very good motivators, giving students a gauge to their current skills, and a sense of achievement.
Lessons take place during the morning, afternoon and early evening on weekdays. Each lesson lasts for 30 minutes, but the very first introductory lesson lasts 60 minutes.

He is very friendly and patient, and explains everything well and in detail.
I feel like with Stephen I am ma good progress and look forward to continuing lessons.
Friendly and helpful
My only reason for not continuing with him was a change in circumstance - we are selling our piano ( if possible that is ! ) . I would wholeheartedly recommend him to any learner !
