Personal Description:
Hi. My name is Sindre, and I have 8 years of experience as a private music teacher for both children and adults.
I graduated from Rose Bruford College of Theatre & Performance in 2015 with BA (Hons) in Actor-Musicianship. Before this, I completed my A-level course in Music, Dance & Drama in Norway and a one-year theatre course at Romerike College, Norway.
I prepare my students for university and music/theatre auditions as well as ABRSM grade exams.
Tutoring Experience:
So far I have had over 80 students. Those who have gone through graded exams have all done so with a 100% pass rate.
I have a wide experience performing in several ensembles in a variety of styles. As a result of this experience, I have a considerable understanding of different musical styles and can teach all of them in a way that can be understood by both children and adults. Because of my long career as a performer, I can also give you some valuable insights into the skill of performing.
If this sounds good, I would love to hear from you!
Tutoring Approach:
In my experience, the most important factor for successful learning is to keep lessons fun and inspiring. That’s why I source material that resonates with my students' passions and interests and incorporate their favourite songs into our lessons.
I also think it’s important to get along with your teacher. The student/teacher relationship can often make or break an individual's interest in pursuing music. When students enjoy their time in lessons and feel understood, they are more likely to develop a deep love for their instrument.
With a genuine interest in connecting with others, I strive to build meaningful relationships and a strong rapport that allows students to feel comfortable expressing themselves.
Instilling a passion for music in children is a challenge that many parents face. However, through my extensive experience with this problem, I have developed a unique ability to nurture and cultivate an enduring interest in music. I empathise with the initial hurdles that parents may encounter when introducing their children to the world of music. In my experience, the most effective strategy is to focus on the joy and excitement of music right from the start. I have witnessed incredible transformations in students who initially struggled to find enjoyment in playing the instrument. After a while of focusing on the fun aspects of it, they developed a love for the instrument which enabled us to focus more on activities that increased their skill level.
Progressing on an instrument is not only about what happens in the lessons. What happens in between lessons is equally important. That’s why I focus on supporting this aspect of the learning process as well. I provide tailored strategies for how to practise in a way that yields results. That's why I focus on supporting and guiding students in optimising their practise routines to yield tangible results.
Learning and education is something I care deeply about.
Drawing from my knowledge and experience in accelerated learning techniques and skill acquisition, I offer valuable insights and advice to my students, empowering them to make the most of their practice time.
Accountability is a very powerful way to ensure that the right amount of practise is happening between lessons. The way I hold my students accountable to practise in between lessons is often what has produced the desired progress.
As part of my commitment to fostering growth, I host regular concerts and recitals for my students. This recent addition to my teaching approach has been a huge success.
During these events, students of all ages take the stage to showcase their hard work and dedication as they perform pieces they have diligently practised for weeks. These concerts act like milestones in the student’s progress and provide clear and tangible goals for students to strive towards. This has often ignited their motivation and passion.
Beyond the invaluable goal-setting aspect, these concerts also serve as a perfect platform for students to refine their performance skills. The supportive and encouraging environment created during these events allows students to overcome stage fright and build confidence.
I am deeply honoured to have received heartwarming feedback from parents who have witnessed profound changes in their children. Through the impactful experience of participating in one of my concerts, I have had the joy of seeing young musicians blossom into confident individuals. It is truly remarkable to receive messages from parents sharing how their child's participation in the concert has not only shaped their musical journey but has also positively influenced their overall personal growth. The feeling of knowing that my guidance and the platform I provide have empowered people to develop newfound self-assurance and a sense of achievement is immensely gratifying.
