Personal Description:
Music has always been central in my life. Since starting the piano at age 6, listening, playing, composing and teaching music has always been a huge joy for me. I am a classically trained pianist, and having completed my music degree I went on to teach piano alongside scoring music for a variety of media.
Returning to Cornwall in late 2019, I have continued to teach piano in line with COVID restrictions. Zoom lessons are a brilliant way to continue with things during the pandemic.
Tutoring Experience:
I have taught piano and music theory for ten years now, and within that time have taught children and adults from absolute beginner to post-grade 8 standard. Indeed, lots of students have been with me for many years and I feel this is an indication that they find their lessons positive, fun and rewarding.
I have helped to prepare students for music exams (several of my students have gone from complete beginners to a post-grade 8 level) and music scholarships, alongside performance opportunities such as the Dulwich Piano Festival. I teach both ABRSM and Trinity syllabuses and music theory tuition often runs alongside students' piano playing.
Tutoring Approach:
*During COVID my lessons have gone online, and although in-person lessons are always preferable, Zoom lessons are very effective and I'm more than happy to offer them*
My favourite teachers were always the ones that were fun to learn with and being a personable, positive and understanding teacher is very important to me. Practice is hard; students should feel inspired to begin the week's aims and development. My piano teaching is always tailored to the individual. No two students are ever the same, thus I constantly evolve my approach to their learning and needs.
Students are encouraged to follow their own path with music-making, and learn a huge variety of pieces and styles. I endeavour to give helpful advice and feedback in order to make sure work away from lessons is effective. Practice is of course an essential part of musical development and I have a well-stocked armoury of tips and tricks to help in between lessons.
Lessons are offered on a one-to-one basis, and parents are encouraged to sit in on classes with their kids.
