Personal Description:

Hello, I'm Simon and I'm here to help you take your playing to the next level.

I am a friendly and professional guitar teacher with 11 years teaching experience. I teach all age groups, all abilities and a wide range of music styles.

I started learning the electric guitar at age 12 after seeing the music video for 'Can't Stop' by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. In the following years I also took up the acoustic guitar, bass, ukulele and joined my first band in 2005. Playing in bands for more than half of his life has given Simon the ability to create a relaxed and supportive atmosphere for his pupils.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been playing in groups and bands for more than half my life now. I have played at festivals, professional events and functions with a huge range of musicians and musical styles. All of this experience has given me a great insight into how people approach music and knowing all this gives me the ability to create a relaxed and supportive atmosphere for all my pupils.

Every lesson is personalised to suit each pupil's playing level and musical tastes to help them achieve their individual goals.
I began giving private guitar lessons in 2013 in London. Here I tutored a diverse clientele offering a range of teaching material and delivering fantastic learning experiences to my students.

I now teach from my home studio in the Bristol area where I give in-person or online lessons

Tutoring Approach:

When I teach, I make it all about you.

I always get started by clearly establishing what YOUR goals in music are. Once we have a crystal clear vison of what you want to achieve then we will get you moving towards realising your ambitions right away.

Whether you are just starting out or if you’re optimising the finest details, you will unlock your full potential with my holistic approach, combining theory, technical exercises, and song-based learning.

We all take different paths when it comes to learning so do NOT settle for the set-menu, cookie-cutter approach. The best way to reach your full potential is to learn with a teacher who understands where you are coming from and where you would like to be.

Before we've even touched the fretboard I want to hear all about your influences, who and what inspires you, where you're currently at and where you would like to be.

Every lesson I teach is personalised to suit each student's playing level and musical tastes to help them achieve their individual goals.

Lessons normally get started with a quick and fun warm up, sometimes a little jam. We'll then get stuck into the main part of the lesson where we cover material that moves you towards becoming the player you really want to be.

I understand that the best way to learn anything is to make it fun. This is why I have had so much success with building up the confidence of my students and helping them surpass their wildest expectations.

Through my lessons you will develop:
-An enhanced technical ability
-A deeper understanding of your own musicality
-A developed sense of rhythm
-A working knowledge on caring for your instrument
-A greater level of confidence

My instrumental lessons can help you in the following areas:
-Improvisation
-Economy / alternate picking
-Timing and Groove
-Finger Picking
-Hybrid Picking
-Playing from Memory
-Soloing
-Understanding the role that your instrument plays as part of a band / ensemble

Songwriting / Music Theory

Your First Lesson

For guitar, you will just need your instrument (and maybe a few plectrums). Music sheets and all other materials will be provided by Simon.

For songwriting / theory, you will need whichever instrument you write on.

Testimonial
Stuart - Guitar Pupil
I highly recommend Simon as a guitar tutor. He really knows his stuff and he genuinely enjoys teaching. My playing and understanding of music theory have definitely both progressed after just two lessons.

Thank you for taking the time to read about me and I look forward to hearing from you
