Personal Description:
British trumpeter Ruby **Removed By Admin** embodies a classical music education which
underpins her musical activities. Ruby espouses musical excellence having
achieved her BMus(Hons) with a first in 2020 and her MMus(Perf) with a distinction (2022)
from The Royal College of Music (RCM). This excellence allows Ruby to enrich
her music with depth, colour and image, resulting in a unique and personalised
repertoire.
Whilst a student, Ruby studied under Jason Evans, Kate Moore, James Fountain
and Niall Keatley and during her postgraduate studies was a Needley Family
Scholar.
Since childhood, Ruby immersed herself in music, becoming involved in Hullʼs
amateur and professional music scene. As a teenager, Ruby was involved in the
local theatre scene and has played lead trumpet for reputable musicals such as
Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables and Jesus Christ Superstar. After an
insight into the music profession, Rubyʼs passion for music became driven and
blossomed through her later solo work.
Through her education at The Royal College of Music, Ruby absorbed herself
into new experiences. She is also interested in exploring contemporary music,
as well as increasing her knowledge and understanding of 20th Century
repertoire. She was able to explore these interests as an RCM ERASMUS
student at The Royal Conservatoire, The Hague studying under Erwin Ter Bogt
and Simon Wierenga. This offered opportunities such as working with The
Dutch National Opera. In 2022, once she returned to London she was awarded
winner of the RCM solo brass competition where she performed a
contemporary work.
During her career Ruby has performed alongside prestigious musicians such as
Matthias Höfs, Gustav Melander, Adam Rapa and Håkan Björkman and has
participated in masterclasses with Matthias Höfs, Gustav Melander and Philip
Cobb.
Ruby freelances with major UK Orchestras including Philharmonia, London
Symphony Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra and BBC Concert
Orchestra. Ruby is also Principal Trumpet of The Bath Festival Orchestra and
has performed as guest Principal for Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Royal
Philharmonic Orchestra and Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra.
Ruby also has a keen passion for music education and holds an ABRSM
teaching diploma which she achieved in 2018. Ruby is a diligent musician withan enthusiasm for performing. She consistently strives for positivism in her
work, and she has an engaging approach.
Tutoring Experience:
For the past six years I have been teaching around London helping my students achieve their aspirations and goals. I believe in passing on my own enthusiasm and passion to others through music and am a firm advocate of music being fun. I am interested in a variety of music from orchestral to contemporary and aim to find unique repertoire, when possible and ideas to optimise lesson productivity. I teach both individual and group lessons; my diligence coupled with my dedication for music promises engaging and fun lessons.
Tutoring Approach:
Teaching different students means different methodologies. I aim to assess and get to know the student/students I am working with initially to see in which way their learning is best suited to the information I am divulging. As a backup I always take my own trumpets to a lesson for the purposes of demonstration. For beginners the focus is primarily on fun and basic technique; letting the student enjoy what they are doing is integral to me as a teacher. Only at a later stage will I begin to introduce finer technique and musicality.
