Personal Description:
I am a saxophonist, songwriter, producer and arranger based in Southampton. I graduated from the University of Southampton with a BA in Music, achieving First Class Honours. I am currently a performer with Southampton FC's Saints Brass band, and I also perform with the bands Nine Ace Deck and ChaWk. I have also produced tracks on the latter two's albums. I also work across Hampshire as an Instrumental Music Teacher.
Tutoring Experience:
Through my secondary school I was able to help lead the Junior Jazz ensemble. During my work with them, I focused on teaching them creative ways to improvise on tunes, as well as helping them to play and listen with each other. My aim was to give the students the necessary tools for soloing, in order to help build their confidence as players.
As an adult, I know teach in multiple different teaching environments, including one to one lessons, group lessons, whole class lessons and ensemble leading.
Tutoring Approach:
If you are a student who would like to prepare for graded exams, then I am more than happy to assist you to get the best grade possible. If you would like to just learn for fun, or just want to become better, then by all means that's great too. All in all, my approach to teaching is one of creativity. Teaching someone how to play the saxophone is fine, but I wish to go one step further and teach my students about why the music that they are learning works. Improvisation is a big part of jazz performance, and is something that I wish to help others to develop.
