Personal Description:
Rob has played alongside many of the UK’s best jazz musicians (within the Pendulum Jazz Orchestra), such as Steve Waterman, Tina May, Mark Lockheart and Guy Barker. More recently, Rob can be seen playing for Nick Heyward, the 80s pop icon of Haircut 100, performing at 5 festivals during the Summer of 2014, one of which was **Contact Detail Removed**vised on Sky Arts.
Rob has wealth of experience; playing a range of styles and ensembles in venues across Europe, including Orchestras, Big Bands, Brass Bands, small jazz groups, function bands, pit bands and studio work, playing in venues ranging from local bars to country manors. As well as writing and gigging with his own jazz group, The Robert Quartet, he plays with several function bands.
Whilst Rob initially began playing the Clarinet, he soon found his passion for the saxophone during his teens. He is constantly tinkering around with other instruments, yet his specialism remains with woodwind. When Rob isn’t doing musical related activities, his creativity continues to his passion for graphic design and illustration. He also likes cats, cooking, watching movies and exploring the outdoors.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been a private wind tutor since since 2006. I love seeing my students' personal progress and enjoy helping them realise their goals!
Tutoring Approach:
Learn in a relaxed and friendly environment with a fun and simple-to-understand style from a professional musician; no boring exercises or tedious worksheets! Each lesson is tailored to your individual goals; whether you want to learn ‘Careless Whisper’, perform a classical recital in front of a public audience or solo over some face-melting jazz.
I teach students through to advanced levels but I am in my true element teaching beginners - whether you are a youngster seeking an extra-curricular activity or an adult pursuing a new hobby. I will teach you how to read music, improve your sound, enhance your breathing, play in a range of genres, and establish a practice routine.
I supply everything you will need; including music stand, notebook, portable speakers and an infinite supply of entertaining music-related videos. If you do not have your own instrument I can advise you on buying or renting one!
