Personal Description:
I am an experienced and fully qualified music teacher and have worked in schools for 20 years. I am currently in my final year of an MA in Early Years Music Education at BCU. I have 2 businesses that deliver early years classes in the community and in early years settings, focussing on learning through musical play. I specialise in SEN support and musical communication in neurodivergent children.
I have always had a love and enthusiasm for music and have continued this in my teaching career. I am a singer and violinist myself and have performed since a young child. As a singer, I have performed as a soloist in classical recitals and also in a swing band. I have performed lead roles as well as part of a chorus in both opera and musical theatre. I have also sung in both chamber and large mixed-voice choirs throughout my life. As a violinist, I am an experienced orchestral player. I enjoy seeing my students succeed, and showing the same enthusiasm as I have for my subject.
Tutoring Experience:
I am a trained Music Classroom Teacher with over 20 years of experience. I have taught voice, violin and music theory for County Music Services and as a private tutor. 15 years of my career have been as a Secondary School Head of Music. I have vast experience of teaching Music and Drama GCSE, A level Music and Theatre Studies, and have 5 years experience of delivering and moderating BTEC Music levels 2 and 3.
I am happy to teach beginners and nervous students. I welcome neurodivergent students.
Tutoring Approach:
I am patient and nurturing. I especially understand how daunting vocal lessons can be, and work at building self-confidence as well as good technique. As a vocal teacher I will help you to set goals that develop your unique instrument and bring out your own personality. I believe that singing is an important form of communication and use my drama training to help you to deliver a performance with integrity and meaning. The only thing that I ask of all of my students is that they are open minded, enthusiastic, turn up prepared, and eager to learn. Practise is the key to making good progress!
