Information About Sophia - Wigston teacher

Personal Description:

From the moment I heard a flute when I was very young, I was captivated: I knew I wanted to be a flute player. I was allowed to begin lessons when I was nine. (Those were the days when special flutes for young children weren’t yet being made. Now you can start from the age of four or five). During my time at school I was taken to concerts with wonderful flute players like Jimmy Galway, Atarah Ben Tovim and William Bennett. I myself played in chamber ensembles and orchestras, went on concert tours, and performed in lots of solo concerts, all of which I loved. I went on to study with Trevor Wye at the Royal Northern College of Music and gain my Professional Performance diploma.

Tutoring Experience:

I set up my first teaching studio in North London in 1992, and worked within schools too. In 2011 I had a flourishing private studio and became a founding member of staff at Suzuki Hub, the U.K.’’s dedicated Suzuki music school.

After many happy years teaching in London, at the end of 2021 I moved to live with my husband on his farm in Leicestershire.

Tutoring Approach:

I teach with the Suzuki Method: an approach designed to bring out the inherent talent in everyone and to nurture confidence, self esteem, and love of music.
Reading music is developed in tandem with aural skills and the ability to play without written notes.
Music, to me, is the language of the heart. My desire is to be able to provide my students with the chance to enjoy the wonderful musical experiences I have been privileged to have.
