Personal Description:
After learning piano from the age of 6 through my family and then through private tuition and working through the grades, I moved to Huddersfield to complete my BMus. Since then I had many hours of teaching experience in a variety of subjects in music before deciding to be a piano teacher.
I also offer theory lessons for those who need grade 5 theory to progress to later ABRSM grades. These theory lessons can either be one to one, or in small groups which can be more beneficial as students learn from each other as well as by themselves. This also allows for the possibility of a more practical approach to music theory.
I teach piano and have taught piano for over 5 years full time, with 100% pass rate in ABRSM exams during that time.
I teach according to what you want to learn, and I always strive to provide inspiring, interesting and fun lessons for anyone who has a desire to learn. I also believe in not using an exam syllabus as a curriculum. All students benefit from exposure to a wide variety of music, so from time to time I will introduce music from other sources.
My piano at home is a Kawai K200 and is a great instrument to learn on, regardless if you are a beginner or an advanced student.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been teaching piano full time for over 5 years and have had 50 hours of classroom experience at a secondary school. Also 100+ hours of teaching experience at college level, including one-to-one teaching of piano and music theory.
Tutoring Approach:
My lessons always include elements of performance, theory and composition/creative thinking. Like to keep a light-hearted approach, as music should be fun and exciting to play, but if you want to achieve I can push you to greater heights as well. I prefer to let the student play where possible and would rather tell you what to do than show you, apart from certain aspects such as posture and fingering.
