Personal Description:
My name is Phillip and I have a passion for music teaching and performance. Music should be an integral part of everyone’s life and I get great pleasure out of seeing students achieve when learning new pieces; be it for pleasure or exams
Tutoring Experience:
I have run a music practice for several years and have taught students from the age of seven to adult. Clearly this involves teaching students with a wide range of needs and abilities. I am also a holder of the DipABRSM for Piano teaching. Online lessons are available.
Please note for organ students. I will travel longer distances as there are not as many teachers for this instrument and students generally prefer to learn on an instrument they know well. Feel free to contact me and discuss arrangements for lessons.
I have also through my church music run church choirs for over fifteen years.
Tutoring Approach:
Course planning
I undertake to plan an individual scheme of work taking into account the abilities of each student. This is followed up with each lesson is carefully prepared for to ensure a good paced lesson aimed at making a good level of progress during the lesson.
Piano
I teach the piano where students can either study for exams or simply for pleasure and I teach the full age range from children to adults. For exams I usually use the ABRSM examination syllabi and would expect most students to complete an exam grade within two or three terms.
Organ
I teach the organ on two different pathways
1 ) Exams (ABRSM syllabi) and service playing.
2) Service playing only.
