Personal Description:
I started learning the trumpet at primary school, quickly going through the grades but not with much exposure or interest in any particular type of music. However, upon joining the jazz band in secondary school, jazz quickly became my favourite style of music! I also started playing piano and became more interested in music theory. Before, I had thought of this as being fairly boring but I now see that it is so interesting and helpful as part of becoming a good musician.
In 2016 I began a jazz performance degree, including modules in composition, tuition and film music, at Leeds College of Music. During my time there I received one to one tuition from several great musicians, including renowned jazz trumpeter, Steve Fishwick. In 2019, after my final recital featuring a mixture of originals and famous jazz standards, I went on to graduate with first class honours.
I have since performed and recorded at various locations in the UK, and as of September 2021 I have regularly released my own music across major streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube Music.
I am keen to share my enjoyment of music with others in the form of one to one tutoring. I want to help students get excited about the subject of music, whether it is to pass an exam or just for the sake of improving and having fun!
Tutoring Experience:
I have taught several students privately over the last 3 years, covering the fundamentals of playing (technique and sound etc) as well as different genres. My students range from primary school to retirement age. They have all improved and are enjoying music more!
Tutoring Approach:
I most enjoy teaching in a one to one situation because it can be 'tailor made' to suit that particular student and help them get the most out of it. I believe that people learn best when they enjoy the subject so I try to make lessons fun and relevant to the student's specific interest (e.g going into detail with a particular artist/composer or specific period or style of music).
