Personal Description:
I actually didn't take a serious interest in music until early 1998, when I was playing keyboards and writing songs with a low key band called The Potion. Soon after this time I took a BTEC ND course in Music Technology followed by a BA honours degree in Music Practice some years later.
I have played as a solo artist and as a folk music group member (Picnic Club) in the past but I am currently working as a music leader, tutor, mentor and I am occasionally writing music for TV and online advertisements.
I have never been fixated with just one style of music for long, having been interested in dance, techno, folk, rock, pop, ambient, relaxational music, and many others at various stages of my life. For me, it's the vast range of music styles and moods which makes being involved in it so enjoyable, and I enjoy working with and teaching people from all kinds of musical backgrounds
Tutoring Experience:
2012-present: I have worked as a music tutor for Waterloo Lodge (Chorley) and Thomas Ashton (Cheshire) schools. Both schools included pupils aged 11-16 some of whom have challenging behaviour and/or conditions such as Dyslexia and Asperger's.
2009-present: I have taught music privately to people of many age ranges, from 6 to 50+, and of a wide range of abilities.
2008-2013: Worked as music tutor and workshop leader for Blackburn College, Burnley Youth Theatre, and community arts organisations such as Action Factory. For example, I worked on an Action Factory project called 'Woven Together', which included music production, guitar and drum tuition to elderly people, young people and refugees leading to a live performance/presentation.
Tutoring Approach:
I can offer a diverse range of tuition and support no matter what your musical background is. I can also tailor sessions to individual need & you can learn at the pace that you choose. I also ask you what your favourite music/songs are, so that you can learn the music which YOU want to learn.
Say for example if you start out taking keyboard lessons with me, but then decide to change direction and learn more about music technology or drumming skills? Then by all means I will accommodate to your needs as much as I can.
