Personal Description:

Since the age of 12 I've been a student of music, and over the years have gained invaluable experience playing with artists, bands and even my own work that spans across the majority of musical genres. I graduated with a BA (hons) Degree in Contemporary Popular Music from ACM in Guildford where I completed a 4 year collage degree majoring in electric bass. Other than bass I also play double bass, guitar, keys, and own a small home studio where I record my own work and get students involved in what studio situations are like. I gig regularly in function and original projects as well as having opportunities to perform regularly in theatres for numerous show's around london, surrey and hampshire. Over the years of trying to discover my strongest writing style its brought me to focus mainly within jazz and jazz/funk. Regardless of this I find myself a strong player in the majority of musical genres, writing also in rock/metal/pop inspired bands that I regularly perform in.
Tutoring Experience:
I began teaching privately in my last year of University and have been gaining students ever since. The idea is to make it a large part of my career as I've found it to be equally as rewarding if not more so to performing.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach is to focus on what the student wants and needs to know, regardless of how serious they pursue a career in music. Once the fundamentals are taken care of, then the focal point can be on what the student desires to learn. I cover harmony and theory, technique, arranging, composition, history, and anything else I happen to know that will benefit the improvement of my students.

He assessed my daughter's skills level initially so that he could judge what level to start teaching her at. He is proactive in suggesting alternative pieces/songs as well as going through the grade pieces, various techniques and theory. My daughter thoroughly enjoys her lessons with Paul and looks forward to them every week. I would definitely recommend Paul as a bass teacher.

The transition has enabled me to learn a whole range of artistic nuances that can only be achieved with an electric guitar. In the first week he asked for a list of favourite songs, artists and albums which we can cover and I've been really impressed how quickly he's learnt these to go over in our sessions. From Verd (/5): Although Paul can play several instruments he is primarily a bass player which gives him an advantage as a Bass tutor. He is knowledgeable, experienced and has a good personality. He is also very patient! He designs lessons around your capabilities (beginner in my case) and aspirations. Although he always tries to extend and improve you he makes it fun.He will get you playing along with stuff/backing tracks quite early and will back it up with the music theory as appropriate so you are not just playing by numbers. I am happy to recommend Paul as a good Bass tutor.

From Carol (/5): Paul is currently teaching my 14 year old daughter Bass guitar. We chose Paul because he lives close to us and also specialises in Bass. Also, we felt he may relate to my daughter musically. My daughter has been having lessons now for 6 months every week, she is really enjoying lessons with Paul, he is very flexible with times. He is very pleasant, friendly and my daughter feels at ease with him. Paul always seems to know what the main focus of the lesson will be, but is happy to adapt.She is learning the theory of the Bass guitar, and is enjoying the challenges Paul gives her to learn. He is happy to teach her the music she likes to listen too, although he does teach some of his music choice also. Paul also guided us with guitar and amp choices, which have been excellent buys. I would be happy to recommend him as a tutor.
