Personal Description:
I am a professional musician and music teacher living in Cheshunt in Hertfordshire with my wife and two sons. I love my work and am overjoyed to be able to share an enjoyment of music with others. I am patient and understanding and enjoy going on the journey of learning and development with each of the students I work with. Since graduating from Middlesex University's well establsihed Jazz department I embarked on a career as a performing musician and growing my student base as a teacher. I have focused equally on classical music as well as jazz and popular styles so can cover a whole range of musical interests of my students.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been teaching professionally for over 20 years and have taught all ages from pre-school to retired individuals and all levels from complete beginners to advanced students. I have wide experience with special needs learners such as those with autism, ADHD and Down's Syndrome. However which ever labels we give others everyone is equally an individual and it's my job to ensure they can advance on their own musical path in a way which is true to them and brings out their best. I have worked in several schools around London teaching a range of instruments across the wind and string familes taking studetns through GCSE and A Level music as well as running whole class and smaller group tuition.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to music tuition is to use my many years of experience and the expertise gained in a flexible way which suits each individual student. No two learners are exactly the same and I am always looking for that key piece of information or that key approach that will help the student in front of me really advance in their studies. I am constantly refining and developing my methods too as I believe one who teaches well should be one who is always learning themselves. I always aim to impart a wholistic approach, enabling the student to become a truly rounded musician able to comfortably and confidently expresses what they want to play on their instrument. While enabling students to read music well when necessary I also train them to develop a good ear to play what they hear and be confident to make up music either on the spot or as a composition. I aim to enable them to become so comfortable that the instrument feels as though it is just an exention of their own body of which they have complete control. What a wonderful thing! .
