Personal Description:

Born in Lisbon, Portugal, Nuno started taking piano lessons at the age of eight in Academia de Música de Lagos in Portugal with João Rosa. Alongside his passion for piano Nuno started flute lessons at the age of nine and the flute has been a familiar instrument to him ever since.

Nuno graduated with a First-Class Honours Bachelor of Music degree from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, under the tuition of with Michael Young and Benjamin Frith. He has also graduated from the Royal College of Music with the Master of Music degree (Distinction), under the tuition of renowned pianist Leon McCawley. Nuno is also very grateful to Talent Unlimited UK and The Countess of Munster Musical Trust for supporting his studies in London.

Nuno is a now PhD candidate in Musicology at the Royal College of Music, RCM Studentship Holder and recipient of a PhD Studentship awarded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P. (FCT). Nuno’s research focuses on the relationship between musicology and performance practice in Russian music, with emphasis on the textural correlations between pianistic and orchestral elements in Sergei Prokofiev’s music. Nuno’s research is under the supervision of Christina Guillaumier, Paul Robinson and Dina Parakhina.

Nuno has been a prize winner in several national and international piano competitions including Concurso de Piano de Oeiras; International Competition Cidade do Fundão; Concurso Internacional de Música Cidade de Almada, IX Prémio Nacional Elisa de Sousa Pedroso, and the 20th National Estoril Competition. Nuno was also a finalist of the EPTA UK Piano Competition 2015, and the winner of the Eric Hodges Beethoven Competition 2015, the RWCMD Concerto Competition 2016, the Mary Rees Chopin Prize 2016, the Trevor Pugsley Prize for Piano performance. Nuno was also one of the finalists of the RWCMD Ian Stoutzker prize 2018 – an award for the most outstanding performer at the college. In addition, Nuno has recently been awarded 3rd Prize at the Norah Sande Award 2021 piano competition in Eastbourne.

Nuno has also participated in several masterclasses with names such as Angela Hewitt, Katia and Marielle Labèque, Stephen Hough, Boris Berman, Tamara Stefanovich, Peter Jablonski, Artur Pizarro, Paul Badura-Skoda, Aaron Schorr and Aleksandra Zvirblyte.

Nuno has been performing regularly in the United Kingdom, Portugal and Italy. As a soloist and chamber musician, important performances include Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto N.2 for piano and orchestra with the Royal Welsh College Symphony Orchestra in St. David’s Hall, under the baton of conductor David Jones.

Tutoring Experience:

Nuno is a highly experienced piano teacher and music educator, currently offering private piano and music theory lessons to all levels and ages (above 5 years of age), including those with special needs. He is also part of the teaching staff at several specialist music schools across London, such as Cherry Pie Music, East London Piano, The Masters Music School, and Masterkeys. He has extensive experience in graded exam preparation (ABRSM and Trinity syllabuses), with a proven track record of 100% success amongst his students.

Nuno is a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians and the Royal Musical Association, and has got a DBS Enhanced Certificate. Nuno has received CPD training:
