Personal Description:

Hi! I have taught for 10 years - piano, theory & viva voce, aural and sightreading. I’m a concert pianist, PhD researcher and Teaching Assistant at the Royal College of Music London. I graduated with a Master of Music [Distinction] and BMus (Hons) [First] from RCM.

English is my main language. I am bilingual and also teach in Chinese.

Tutoring Experience:

I currently teach ONLINE as I’m now based in Singapore.

I teach a diverse range of students of all ages, cultures, and musical backgrounds. I specialise in a systematic approach to technique and a well-rounded understanding of music, as well as training confidence in performance skills. My students have achieved ABRSM/Trinity G1-8 Practical and Theory with Distinctions and Merits, passed DipABRSM viva voce, received 11+ music scholarships to City, and gained entry to BMus (Hons) programmes of RCM, RNCM, Trinity Laban and RCS. As a TA for professors, I also conduct seminars and tutorials for RCM undergraduates.

Some of my students enjoy taking their music to the next level with performances at festivals and competitions, and have been awarded at the LYPCO and Stratford & East London Festival.

Tutoring Approach:

I am professional and enthusiastic in my work. I cater lessons to suit individual needs, and recommend recordings that students can listen to. My students practise for improvement, appreciate music, and set suitable goals that we can achieve together.

I enjoy honest communication with my students and/or their parents. I use a systematic approach - solid technique and musical enjoyment can happen at the same time. With my extensive performance and research experience, I specialise in effective practice strategies and understanding of music history and styles.

Students are welcome to two discounted trial lessons before we confirm lesson arrangements (first at 50% and second at 25%). This allows us to understand each other before we make a decision.

For parents who want to be more involved, I am happy with them sitting in to observe lessons. It is motivating for some young learners if their parents are supportive!

I’m based in Greenwich, where I have a good Bechstein upright piano. Any level of learning or goal is welcome. Extra charges may incur for travel distances exceeding 1-2 miles.*****

For diploma students working towards an exam or audition, the fee depends on the requirements (typically 70 and above).
