Personal Description:

I am a music teacher offering in-person lessons in a homely environment or online, (via Skype or Zoom) with over thirty years experience. I enjoy the variety of teaching all ages of pupils from age six years up to seventy plus. My love and passion for music date back to my early childhood, having had piano lessons from the age of six and singing tuition from the age of twelve. Following on from sixth form education, I continued to expand my musical training at Exeter University, studying for both a degree in Theatre Arts and a Diploma in Singing. My studies continued at Newman College in Birmingham, where I completed a Post Graduate Certificate for Teaching. I enjoy singing and performing music from a range of genres of music, from the classics through to more contemporary popular music. I gain so much pleasure from teaching musical skills to others and helping my pupils achieve their full potential.

Tutoring Experience:

I have over thirty years teaching experience, both in a school setting and since 2014, running my own business from my home offering **Contact Detail Removed** ages in singing, piano and music theory. Whilst working in main stream education, I completed several additional courses, including Leadership Pathways and Empowered Leaders (HTL) in addition to necessary qualifications such as Safeguarding. More than half of my pupils choose to enter music examinations and I have a 100% pass rate - all pupils achieving merit or above. I have also successfully helped several pupils with auditions for music college, conservatoire and stage schools, including BOA and Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London. In addition several of my pupils have achieved success in a variety of Vocal Competitions. Many of my pupils also regularly perform in local amateur musical/light operatic society shows of a very high standard. More recently, I have been organising Music Showcases from my home for pupils to perform to their relatives or parents in a relaxed and informal setting, whilst providing performance experience.

Tutoring Approach:

I offer lessons in a relaxed, friendly and homely environment. If preferred, I can also offer lessons online via Skype or other platforms. I currently offer online tuition to pupils as far away as Shetland, or close by to pupils with transport issues. I believe that music should be a pleasureable experience and therefore I strive to ensure that the tuition provided is both enjoyable and personalised to each individual's requirements, building confidence in my pupil's abilities. When offering vocal coaching, I always begin each lesson with a good vocal warm up, working on breathing technique to develop and improve tonal quality. I aim for my piano lessons to be fun and engaging, teaching good keyboard skills alongside musical note recognition. I have a vast library of sheet music, enabling me to coach pupils for a variety of styles and genres of music.
