Personal Description:
Like most, my love of music began while I was at school. There, I learnt to sing and to play the recorder. I knew I wanted to pursue music further, so the obvious route was to start to learn the piano.
At the age of 11, I went to music school on a Saturday. While I was there, I learnt to play the flute. At that stage, my love of music and the making of music was firmly established. Furthermore, I knew I wanted to make music my career.
I studied music at university and went on to complete a PGCE in Secondary Music. This enabled me to enter the teaching profession… which is where I remain today.
I love all styles of music.
I love performing, composing, song writing, arranging, mixing and re-mixing all kinds of music.
Tutoring Experience:
I am an experienced, energetic and creative Music Teacher with twenty years teaching experience.
I have written and taught music schemes of work covering different genres and periods through combined practical (singing / percussion / recorder / keyboards / piano) and theory activities to students aged 4 - adult.
Furthermore, I supplied all the music for ‘The Wizard of Oz’ (2000 / 2007) musical.
Moreover, I have accompanied students entered for music exams and competitions.
My excellent pianistic skills have aided all my work enormously.
Further Information:
I arranged, mixed and re-mixed (using music software) several pieces of music, two of which were used by a dance troupe at last year's ‘Dance For Life’ competition, an annual, nationwide event raising funds and awareness for / of ‘The Red Cross’ charity.
Tutoring Approach:
I am a hard-working, confident and committed person who loves teaching and sharing my knowledge and love of music with others.
Teaching methods are always adapted to meet the objectives, needs and ages of all concerned. Exceptional support and encouragement allowing all to achieve their full potential, through well-planned and enthusiastic lessons, is a given. Being approachable, caring and inhabiting an infectious sense of humour aids my teaching and the learning process considerably.
Oral and / or written notes will be provided at the end of each lesson. This will allow you to see what I expect you to work on between lessons. This should also allow good progress to be made.
Please note:
I insist on the presence of a parent / chaperone at all times when teaching minors.
I am prepared to travel to you, but travelling costs will be added to your overall tuition costs.
I am also prepared to offer the following services:
* accompanying service
* composition / song writing
* mixing and re-mixing sessions
* English tuition - up to and including Key Stage 3
