Personal Description:
Hi I'm Megan! I started playing piano when I was 4. I attended the Junior Department of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama from 12-18, winning the piano prize and developing a love for accompanying. I attended King's College London and the Royal Academy of Music and as a student started to work with the London Suzuki Group accompanying and teaching as well as repetiteuring. Other career paths combined and I now live and work in Brighton where I teach piano, accompany and also work as a doula!
Tutoring Experience:
30 years teaching experience of all ages and stages, 121, groups, schools, music courses, summer schools.
Tutoring Approach:
Bespoke, friendly, thorough.
I am led by what you want to learn, whether that is working towards an exam or a performance, writing a song or learning a tricky piece that you've always wanted to play. My background is classically based and I also teach improvisation and basic jazz theory/practice.
I teach beginners, both adults and children, or those who haven't played for many years and want to re-start.
For more advanced students (up to grade 8) I specialise in honing specific skills for higher grade exams (eg aural or sight reading) or performance confidence - I'm a yoga teacher too; sometimes figuring out how to use our bodies in a relaxed way can really help our playing!
I also do exam preparation sessions as an accompanist for all instruments including voice.
