Personal Description:
I teach piano and harpsichord at my home in Mountsorrel. I offer both real face-to-face and online lessons (via zoom). I have more than 20 years of teaching experience both at music school and university level. I thoroughly enjoy teaching as this means sharing my love of music with my students.
I teach all ages (minimum age 5). Adult beginners and restarters are very welcome. I recommend weekly 30 minute sessions for young students and 45-60 minute lessons for adults or more advanced students. In case you will be travelling from afar for occasional lessons, you may decide to book even longer time slots.
I offer two different tariffs. If you book occasional lessons, my hourly rate is £60. For those who sign up for regular weekly lessons (term-time only), the hourly rate is considerably lower (at around £47).
My personal focus is on baroque, classical and romantic repertoire. I also include jazz and popular music in my lessons. I keep revising the material I use in my teaching, often inspired by the individual needs and preferences of my students.
I strongly encourage my students to get involved in making chamber music. Playing easy duets forms part of my lessons from the very beginning.
Once a year I arrange opportunities for my students to perform. Taking exams is optional for my students. I follow the ABRSM syllabus. So far, I have a 100% pass rate.
As a harpsichordist I have performed both as a soloist and continuo player in the UK, Germany and other European countries. Where appropriate, I integrate my specialist knowledge in historically informed performance practice (historical fingering, ornamentation, basso continuo playing, historical temperaments etc.) into my teaching.
I am a member of the ISM (Incorporated Society of Musicians).
If you are interested, please get in touch to arrange a date for a first meeting. You can then decide whether you (or your child) would like to continue having lessons with me.
Tutoring Experience:
I started teaching more than twenty years ago and I have worked both with adults and children. Apart from giving individual lessons, I have also experience in coaching ensembles.
From 2003 to 2010 I taught at the University of Music and Theatre “Mendelssohn Bartholdy” Leipzig (Germany). I also taught at the Erfurt School of Music and at the School of Music and Arts in Jena (Germany).
I led several Early Music workshops. I worked as an assistant in singing master classes and I used to accompany recorder students in competitions.
Also, I helped students prepare for their entrance exam at Music College.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to teaching is based on my appreciation of music and the joy of bringing it to life.
I believe that a warm and friendly atmosphere is crucial for any learning process. There is always room for a good laugh during my lessons!
Above all, my target is making myself unnecessary as a teacher. I aim to let my students become independent and confident in making their own decisions.
