Personal Description:
"… a highly experienced musician, tutor & multi-instrumentalist… "
As a professional musician & multi-instrumentalist who has been performing live for almost 2 decades years in various successful original & cover bands, I've gained experience in many musical fields. Including composing, performing, recording & producing music with The Sub Rosas, I have spent time with bands in rehearsal & recording studios using industry standard equipment & processes while serving more of an engineer & producer role.
I own and run a mobile recording service for bands and artists to give an alternative solution to expensive studio recording. We travel to rehearsal or recording space with our own quality gear, record your session, mix your music and deliver a final mix, all for an affordable price.
I am currently in a Beatles tribute as George Harrison and play live shows around London on a regular basis.
Acting as a session player for bands has encouraged me to become a more rounded musician, a more confident performer & a more tasteful & creative player, playing to compliment each individual song. This has led to being booked to play at some prestigious venues including The Cavern Club (Liverpool), Dingwalls (Camden, London), Fairfield Halls (Croydon, London), Old Trafford (Manchester, Lancashire) & The Trump Tower (Istanbul, Turkey). A highlight has been working with record producer Charlie Hugall (Florence & The Machine/Ed Sheeran/Kaiser Chiefs) at The Dairy Studios in Brixton while playing guitar for the No More Navigators & performing with Matthew Jure A.K.A Day V Lately who are signed to record label Tactal Hots Music.
Tutoring Experience:
“…a very reliable & responsive teacher… "
I have been a private music tutor for the past 14 years. Specialising in Guitar, both electric & acoustic, as well as the Ukulele & traveling all over the London, Surrey & Kent areas. Working with individuals & group sessions, I have a gained a great deal of experience teaching people of all age groups & ability levels, specifically at Kemnal Technology College, Sidcup, Kent, while I was the school's in-house Guitar tutor.
I take a lot of enjoyment from playing music & I am always enthusiastic about teaching my students how to have fun as well as to improve their playing.
I have worked as a music tutor and a recording studio engineer for studios in London, teaching young people how to work within the music industry and the studio environment. I planned and ran music workshops in the studio and in Young Offenders Institutions around London. The idea of the workshops was to help young people express their thoughts and feelings through music. Participants would learn different ways of making music from songwriting to music recording studio skills and creating music tracks.
Tutoring Approach:
“…… friendly, encouraging & skilled, always prompt & generous with his time…”
My approach to lessons is always relaxed & informal. Lesson topics are normally directed towards your own personal areas of interest, with an emphasis on teaching you practical applications of the techniques you learn, since the goal is to learn to play music, understand it & hopefully, have fun at the same time.
As well as teaching instruments, it is my intention to give all of my students a greater understanding of how music works, & therefore a greater appreciation for it.
To coincide with lessons, I also keep a record of your progress so that together we can work towards improving your playing & not using lesson time just for practice.
Many students feel that a weekly lesson arrangement does aid them to keep focused & progress steadily, although it is not necessarily essential. Whereas children will often benefit from frequent weekly rather than fortnightly lessons since the structure & constant support of these sessions help keep them on track.

I was making ok progress, but at the beginning of January I realised if I was going to do this seriously I needed to get a good teacher. Using the internet to try and learn is all well and good, but nothing beats actual face to face interaction with someone who is an excellent musician, knows what they're talking about, and can show one on the spot what to do, where one is going wrong, and how to get it right.
I am more than happy to recommend Matthew to anyone who is thinking of taking the plunge and getting serious about getting better on the guitar. I've pretty much only played acoustic guitar in my life so far, but at some stage I want to start properly on electric and I know that Matthew will be just as accomplished in that area as well.
Is is so kind and genuine and also patient and highly skilled. He has given advice about instruments and equipment and has been on time for every session so far.
I can't recommend him highly enough!
I highly recommend Matthew!
Would highly recommend.
Thank you
Very patient and supportive, no pressure to get it right first (or even 2nd /3rd /4th time)! Keeps momentum going with every lesson so you are continually learning. He is equally happy to be steered in terms of the music you want to learn (nursary rhymes to impress my little one) or to steer you when you need some guidance too. It’s been a real pleasure picking up an instrument after many years and Matthew has been a fountain of advice and knowledge. I would recommend Matthew wholeheartedly.
I have found Matthew to be very patient, friendly, pleasant and professional and will always take time to explain everything in detail. He is always on time for my lesson.
An excellent teacher, thanks for all your help Matthew.
He is professional, patient, friendly, and is very accommodating. He has a great knowledge of music and takes a genuine pleasure in seeing his students progress. I have only had three lessons so far but have learn’t so much already and have really enjoyed them.
I have now had two lessons with Matthew and couldn't be happier. He is very patient and always finds the best methods to teach something if you get confused. Always happy to help. Even after just two lessons, I feel more comfortable with a guitar already.
He is very knowledgable and love the fact that he lets you choose songs that you like and recognise, which makes lessons far more fun and rewarding.
Overall, great value for money and a great teacher. Excited for more lessons to come.
Huge thank you!
Matthew has been doing lessons with my husband for about a month now and he throughly looks forward to them each week. Matthews rates are also great value for money!
Matthew goes above and beyond sharing his knowledge outside a lesson, and has recently helped me in choosing a special present for my husband! I can't recommend him enough!
Thanks
Her playing also improved immediately and she seems to be going from strength to strength. Very pleased with our choice.
At 61years old I thought I would never be able to learn to play an instrument, however, when I received a Ukulele from my daughter as a Christmas present, lessons were required. Matthew travelled to my house and made learning to play both fun and very easy. He is a true professional at what he does. He started at the lowest possible level with me and explained everything I needed to know in order to get to know the instrument. By the end of the first lesson I understood everything he had taught me plus I could play a couple of chords. After four lessons I now feel I have the basics well and truly implanted in my head. He is very tolerant, cheerful and understanding tutor providing the best level of tuition required. I would strongly recommend Matthew to anyone wanting to learn from a master. Thanks

In my view we couldn't have picked a better tutor for Riley. His progress after just a few lessons has amazed me. Matthew explains things clearly, has lots of patience and is very encouraging. Riley really enjoys his lessons and looks forward to them each week. Perhaps we will have a musician in the family after all :)
I would highly recommend Matthew. He is clearly very experienced when it comes to teaching children and very talented.
My son has in 2 months learned how to play and singing along!!
Ukelele is a fun and good way to get kids interested in music!

Firstly, I made an effort to travel to you, regardless of the distance, since you seemed very keen to have me as your Ukulele tutor (making note that you were impressed with my 5/5 feedback rating and really wanted me as your teacher). I always make an extra effort for all of my tutees to help make the transition as smooth as possible since I am aware it can be an unsettling time in finding, choosing and going ahead with the whole process.
I sourced a venue for our lesson on your behalf because you were unsure on how to go about it yourself. I firmly believe that I planned the lesson well and provided all the information necessary for you to learn a piece of music - a piece that you chose and wanted to learn.
Yes, we did run out of time and could not complete the whole piece in the first lesson (this is common with longer and trickier tablature as you can imagine), but you turned up late to the lesson which I cannot be held accountable for. As you might remember, we also had to end the lesson earlier than we arranged because you told me you needed to head back.
If you are unimpressed in the fact that I didn't get round to writing out the rest of the music for you (at home and in my own time), then I will apologise if I gave you the impression I could. I very much doubt I'd have said you'd receive it 100% as I can never guarantee I will have the time. I teach 7 days a week, have multiple lessons in a day and travel all around London doing so.
Lastly, you cancelled 2.5 hours before the second lesson. Even after I had explained that I need 24 hours notice prior, otherwise a charge will occur, this happened. I understand, sometimes, things happen. I was polite, understanding and fair with my reply and rearranged the lesson for the same time the following week. I felt guilty (since it was only the second lesson) and thought I'd give you the benefit of the doubt, so I explained I would not charge you for the full amount, something I feel was more than fair.
I never heard from you. Even from my communication efforts, I have had no contact from you.
Finally, I would like to add that I hold no grudge. I only wish you had communicated with me on any issues you may have had so we could have resolved them. Tutoring is my job and I take pride in delivering a professional service as seen from all previous feedback. I hope you find a teacher who is happy to work with you in future and guide your playing to the next level.
I would have no hesitation of recommending Matthew.
I am please with her progress and how the lesson is coming along.
Paul
He had the lesson just recently and not only was he delighted with it all but he's alreadyplanning to book a second one!
Can't get better than that really!
Many thanks!
