Personal Description:
Formally educated at London College of Music / Tech Music Schools, Matt graduated in 2010 with a degree in Popular Music Performance BMus (Hons), and has been consistently working in the UK music industry ever since.
Playing drums has taken Matt around the world, both teaching in the United States and performing across Europe, and to destinations as far as Miami and Bermuda. To this day Matt has a very busy gigging schedule and performs most weeks throughout the U.K.
Teaching drums is one of Matt's passions, his enthusiasm and guidance has helped so many people over the years achieve their goals of learning a new instrument and has most recently started Drum Lessons Loughton where he teaches in around Loughton, Essex.
Tutoring Experience:
Teaching has offered Matt many opportunities to gain a varied and valued experience tutoring drums to both children and adults. Over the course of several years Matt has run a number successful teaching practices in both Berkshire and Devon, teaching students of ages and abilities, helping them to reach their learning goals. Matts passion for teaching has allowed him to tutor drums in the U.S. as the senior drum tutor at one of Americas most exclusive summer camps in Massachusetts. Alongside Matt's drum tutoring experience he has also worked extensively at The British Museum over the past 8 years, facilitating the smooth running of workshops, education packages and even producing / delivering his own film music workshop in 2015.
Tutoring Approach:
- Overview:
Tailoring lessons to your needs is key to getting results and achieving your goals. I pride myself on delivering drum lessons in Loughton that are individual, engaging and fun. My use of varied resources (books, instructional videos, play along, etc) allow me to cater to an individuals learning style, and achieve greater results in a more measured way.
- What can I expect from my first lesson?
If you are brand new to drumming our first lesson will consist of breaking down the basics of stick technique, posture, kit set up and most importantly playing your very first beat / groove.
Within our first lesson I will be looking to assess the way in which you learn, and we would have a detailed discussion about what you would like to achieve in our lessons. I can then go away, design and deliver a unique series of lessons for you to succeed in reaching your playing goals.
- What will I learn?
You will gain many skills whilst learning to play drums, one of the most important things you will be taught is how to play along to music. I will teach you key listening skills to allow you to start playing with musicality and feeling. Drums are a key ensemble instrument, and enabling pupils to play at a level good enough to create music as part of a band or group is a key aim of mine.
Studying varied playing styles/genres, technique, co-ordination, grades, performance technique and drumming concepts all combine to allow each student to begin upon an exciting and rewarding journey of drumming.
