Personal Description:
I have had a 37 year career as a freelance orchestral violinist. Over that time I have played with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic and enjoyed many years working in theatre, both with ballet companies and more recently in London's West End in shows such as Les Miserables. I am founder member of the Sussex String Quartet, which performs regularly for FeverUK in their Candlelight Concerts at the Royal Pavilion in Brighton.
Tutoring Experience:
I have taught in both private and state schools for many years and have continued a private teaching practice throughout my career. I have many former students who are are active within the music industry. I enjoy teaching all levels, both adults and children, from their first ever lesson through to those wanting some help with Lark Ascending or the Tchaikovsky Concerto. I frequently give consultation lessons for those preparing repertoire for college/conservatoire entrance auditions and for those preparing for orchestral auditions.I am DBS checked and maintain a 'transferable' enhanced DBS certificate which is available for parents to view at any time.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe that violin playing and lessons should be enjoyable! Practice is essential; I always encourage the 'little but often' approach. I am more than happy for students to follow the ABRSM/Trinity examination systems - and am equally happy to go off-grid with students who are not suited to the exam process.
