Personal Description:

I was born in Chester and educated at the King's School before studying for BA and MA at the University of York. I've worked as an organist and pianist, giving recitals internationally and working both as a soloist and accompanist. Previous musical appointments have been at Clifton College (Bristol), Bath Abbey and Kendal Parish Church; I'm currently on the music staff at the Collegiate Church of St Mary, Warwick, and I'm also a visiting music teacher at King's High School, also in Warwick.

Tutoring Experience:

I've taught over many years, both in connection with my roles in Bristol, Bath, Kendal and Warwick, as well as privately. Some of my piano and organ pupils have achieved success in ABRSM exams, while others have come to learn simply for pleasure or to sharpen up their technique.

Tutoring Approach:

I have an especial interest in helping pupils - and even their teachers - with Music Theory, as this is all too often sidelined as a result of time pressures. I also enjoy providing help and advice to part-time parish church organists (particularly 'reluctant organists' or pianists who find themselves press-ganged into playing at least once a month!) who might wish to develop or refresh certain skills.

Having undertaken examiner training as part of my professional development, I am pleased to coach candidates for examinations of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM), the Royal College of Organists (RCO) or other boards. I am also available for ad hoc consultation sessions on academic music for students at GCSE level, A-level, degree level or diploma level.
