Personal Description:
I am a versatile musician with extensive experience as a performer, composer and educator. I am passionate about making music and helping others thrive through music.
My compositions have been performed in the UK, Greece, France, Germany and Brazil, by acclaimed musicians and ensembles including Joanna Gutowska, Accroche Note, Hezarfen Ensemble and Bristol Ensemble.
As a pianist, I have performed in prestigious venues including St Martin-in-the-Fields, Megaron Moussikis, Bath Pump Rooms, and the British Ambassador’s Residence in Paris, and have won several prizes in piano and composition competitions, such as the RPS Composition Prize, Ivan Juritz Prize and Evangelia Tjiarri International Piano Competition.
My latest album, Espelho Duplo—Double Mirror, features solo piano music by Brazilian composer André Luiz Machado and is available on Spotify.
Tutoring Experience:
9 years’ tutoring experience in piano, theory, composition and improvisation (1200+ hours since 2012)
Practice Assistant and Keyboard Musicianship Tutor at Chetham's School of Music (2017–2019).
Graduate Teaching Assistant at King's College London (2015–2019).
Oxbridge Admissions preparation and mentoring as Interviewer with Oxfizz (2013–2014).
Tutoring Approach:
I have worked with students of all ages and levels. No two students are alike and there is no magic formula for learning or teaching music. In my first lesson with a new student, we typically discuss their musical goals, motivations and ambitions, based on which we create a programme of study.
I am happy to prepare students for important performances, such as exams (ABRSM, Trinity, Rock School etc.), concerts, recordings, weddings etc. I am equally happy to work on technical improvement, repertoire development, or even just casual learning. Regarding composition, I can help with creative work and projects, including A-level coursework, as well as with creative practical skills such as improvisation and keyboard musicianship.
The core underlying principle of my teaching is the complementary nature of practice and theory. Practice gains robust foundations and context through the study of theory, while theory is illuminated through practice to reveal its vital purpose and immediate value.
