Personal Description:
Maddy was born in Leicester, England. She is currently Principal oboe at Sinfonia Viva and guests regularly with many UK orchestras. Maddy returned to the UK in 2013 after working for 10 years in a German Opera house.

Tutoring Experience:

From 2013 - Abingdon School, teacher of oboe
2007-2008 and 2010 - 2013: Musikschule Kurt-Weil Desslau-Roßlau
Teacher of Oboe. Including conducting sessions of the Music School Wind ensemble, delivering information sessions and running the Oboe ensemble. Since 2010 I have extended the oboe class from 1 student to 7.
2003:RNCM Junior School, Deputy Oboe teacher
2001-2004:Bolton School Double Reed teacher
2000:Stockport Music Service Peripatetic woodwind teacher
1997-2000:Bolton Music Service Oboe specialist. Peripatetic teacher of woodwind.
Extra responsibilities:
Founder and director of the Bolton Youth Double Reed Ensemble. This involved conducting weekly rehearsals and concert performances and composing and arranging music for the group.
Bolton Schools’ orchestra woodwind section coach. I also composed a number of pieces for the youth orchestra. A lot of music arranged for youth orchestra does not take the varying capabilities of string and woodwind groups into consideration. In my compositions I have attempted to address these problems and produce interesting music, which young people can relate to.
Responsible for compiling the oboe syllabus for the music service.
1995-1997:Northamptonshire Music Service, Peripatetic teacher of woodwind and music centre Oboe teacher
1993: University of Central England in Birmingham, Tutor of music harmony for BA(Ed) students. Delivery of the theory course to 1st year music students and the assessment of students' progress and associated record-keeping.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe in the teaching of a sound technique from day one. Whether it be in oboe, composition or theory, students are taught the correct technique.
Oboe students work through my own tutor book which combines oboe technique, theory and note reading and improvisation. I offer preparation for both Trinity and ABRSM grade exams and am an approved teacher assessor for ABRSM music medals.
I use both Trinity and ABRSM syllabuses for Theory students and supplement the workbooks with my own material.
Online tuition only available for music theory.
In terms of musical performance, I teach a mindful approach to practise and study, teaching methods for effective practice and coaching in performance technique and management of nerves.
