Personal Description:

American-Chinese flautist, Lydia , is often described as an intuitive, sensitive artist by mentors and colleagues. She enjoys performing works spanning from early to experimental music and has made a name for herself as an artist who is not afraid to experiment with unconventional sounds and theatrics.

As an artist, Lydia values diversity in her sound and strives to incorporate historical performance and contemporary practices to further enrich her listener’s experience. She frequently enjoys collaborating with Zygmund De Somogyi, Ashkan Layegh, and other composers whenever the opportunity arises.

Lydia is a postgraduate at the Royal Academy of Music with Karen Jones, and was recently awarded a Bachelor’s of Music with Honors from the Royal Academy of Music. Some of her upcoming engagements include Instrumental Olympics: Academy Baroque Soloists, Knussen Chamber Orchestra with Ryan Wigglesworth, and Royal Academy of Music Schools’ Tour: Temporal Harmonies Inc. Prior to her studies at RAM, Lydia placed in competitions including Society of American Musicians Young Artist Competition, Enkor International Music Competition, and DePaul Concerto Festival.

You can find Lydia regularly performing with her promising chamber group, Temporal Harmonies Inc. Founded by Xiaowen Shang, Mikolaj Piszczorowicz, and Lydia , Temporal Harmonies Inc. is a proud recipient of the Jacob Barnes Award and has performed in venues across London including Wigmore Hall, Royal Academy of Music, and St. Mary Le Strand. With their upcoming events and performances, this passionate ensemble is keen to bring new audiences to classical music and break down the barrier between the listener and the performer.
