Personal Description:
I am an experienced and qualified teacher and have worked both from home and in schools for 40+ years. I aim to make learning fun and the best experience for all ages from beginners to advanced. I also specialise in adult teaching from and to …. who cares! My prophecy is that you are never too old to start learning to play and to enjoy new challenges.
Tutoring Experience:
I have taught for 40+ years, both at home and in junior and senior schools, enter interested players in festivals, arrange short concerts and encourage performances within local schools and to family and friends.
Tutoring Approach:
Music should be enjoyed and encouraged at all ages and the joy of witnessing the self satisfaction and pride in those who learn is indescribable. The challenges increase self confidence in all aspects, providing each student receives the support he/she deserves. I don't follow a set pattern but approach each individual according to needs and ability. Therefore, the material I use varies in line with the person I am teaching. In addition and as incentives, I offer awards for achievement no matter how small or great.
I'm always open to new ideas and look for ways to enhance lessons. For example I take videos of performances, to be shown on my monitor, and on YouTube with the parents' permission, saved as 'unlisted' and not as 'public’. I download apps to help in note reading, rhythms, scales and practising to audio recordings at different speeds. I have also produced a folder of numerous documents to hand out to help around understanding the elements of music.
Music can be enjoyed by all if guided sensitively and with patience.
After the initial contact, I suggest meeting to talk things through and to answer questions. This gives the student the opportunity to decide if I’m the teacher he/she is looking for before a commitment is made.

Teaching music is my passion and the greatest reward is watching the students progress to fulfil their dreams and to reach their potential in mastering to play the piano.
You daughter is a joy to teach, she works really hard, is conscientious and embraces the award system on the 'Practice Space' app. For this reason, she is preparing for the ABRSM grade 2 exam, her first experience of any music exam!
go girl go … you can do it!!
Needless to say my daughter enjoys every minute with Lorna and she is her best piano teacher.
