Personal Description:
I am a professional tenor and music teacher based in London. I graduated with Distinction from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with an MA in Opera Studies from the Opera School. Before that I took my Postgraduate diploma at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama. In Portugal I graduated in singing and piano from the Gulbenkian Conservatory and singing education from the University of Aveiro. My career to date has included working with the Scottish Opera, Wexford Festival Opera, Opera Holland Park, the Royal Albert Hall and Royal Festival Hall, amongst others. I have been living in London for the last 10 years and I travel regularly for both teaching and singing work.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been teaching singing and piano for over ten years, both in schools/colleges and privately. I specialise in vocal technique training and voice lessons, having been a Learning Repertoire Coach at Guildhall and a guest Singing Teacher at City University London. I have prepared numerous students for the ABRSM/Trinity exams, with good results. I work with all levels from beginners to advanced and professional level and I teach various styles of music including classical, opera, popular, jazz and musical theatre style.
Tutoring Approach:
All my lessons are tailor-made and individualised, depending on a student's needs and goals. I am as comfortable working with children as I am with adults. As I work with a lot of children my general approach there is to engage with them and establish a rapport first. Once children feel they are in a supportive environment I can then work on their attention and focus and get them to really commit to their learning and practice whilst making lessons fun but always flexible. I believe the skills they glean from their music tuition is of significant benefit to their education in school and in life.
With adults, I do understand the many challenges of a working life so whether they want to take singing or piano lessons seriously or as just a hobby in their spare time, my skills are adaptable and I am happy to work with either scenario.

He builds confidence and teaches his students to dare to shine, fiercely!
Historicaly informed, but never rigid, he embraces my voice and genuinely celebrates who I am with huge positivity which I've only come across from one other expert (my current musical director).
At last I've found a tutor who actually enjoys my voice and believes in me from the bottom of his heart. Someone with the insight and gift to take my singing to the next level. I'm very excited and pleased about this. We have started work on uncovering the best sound possible, through releasing and dropping the jaw first, providing optimum space for the sound to project and resonate with the least strain and the fullest, richest, warmest most rounded tone possible.
