Personal Description:
I have over 20 years experience working in the music industry. In that time I have worked professionally as musician, session drummer, live sound technician, drum technician, recording studio manager, songwriter, producer and remixer.
Previous and current clients include: Anna Of The North, Autokratz, Black Grape, Blood & Fire, Blossoms, The Charlatans, Doves, The Fall, Happy Mondays, Herman's Hermits, Hot Chocolate, James, Kllo, Marion, New Order, Oasis, Petite Noir, Puressence, Simply Red, Status Quo and Terry Hall.
I currently divide my time between music tuition, live sound and music production.
Tutoring Experience:
I've been teaching Drums, Bass, Guitar and Music Technology for over 20 years now and to a wide range of people. My youngest client is a 5 year old drummer and my oldest a 67 year old songwriter who I'm tutoring in music technology so he can record his own songs at home on his laptop.
In recent years I've managed and tutored at a number of private music schools in the northwest. Here we encouraged the students to learn their favourite songs. Week by week, we'd add to the set-list and once they felt ready we'd book a venue and perform a gig for their friends and family.
I have experience in tutoring one-to-one and of teaching larger groups of children and adults.
Tutoring Approach:
Every student is different.
Some guitarists aren't interested in standard musical notation and just want to learn riffs and licks. As with drummers, some thrive on reading drum notation while others prefer to learn by example. I can offer various teaching methods to help you achieve your personal goals.
I always tailor the lessons to meet the specific needs of the learner.
I am registered with the Open Awards (formerly NOCN) and can provide tuition and assessment in a range of Open Awards qualifications, Levels 1 - 3.
I can also offer lessons following the "Rockschool" Syllabus and prepare students for the appropriate graded exams from Debut to Grade 8.
